Not your typical daggy Irish watering hole, Trinity Bar is named after the historic Trinity College in Dublin. Since Trinity Bar was revamped a few years ago, a great deal of care and detail has gone into recreating some of the scholarly grandeur of the Irish university.
The beautiful downstairs bar has red leather booths and walls lined with grand timber bookshelves brimming with endless encyclopaedic volumes. The pub has retained much of its warm, old-school look and feel yet still feels effortlessly young, cool and vibrant, though hardly pretentious. The crowd is mixed, the staff are cheerful and the vibe is welcoming. There’s a small, cosy outdoor terrace looking out on to the trendy flurry of Crown Street, and upstairs there’s a more modern, intimate lounge bar with leather sofas and banquettes.
Trinity is a proper ale house, with 14 local and imported beers on draught, Guiness included. The wine menu’s decent and affordable too, and cocktails are popular in the upstairs lounge bar. There are a number of big screens showing sports downstairs, and if you’re keen on international soccer, Trinity is the place to be.
Finally, the Trinity bistro has one of the best no-nonsense pub kitchens around. Expect big, hearty serves of top quality pub fare at pretty reasonable inner-city prices. Get stuck into Grainge Angus sirloin, beef and Guinness pot pie, a Wagyu beef burger cooked to your liking, or fish and chips battered with Little Creatures ale.
HelloMetro Tip: For something a little more delicate, try the blue swimmer crab spaghettini or roast pumpkin ravioli with leek, sage and parmesan.
