Each year, during the balmy months of December to March, Moonlight Cinema brings the big screen to the great outdoors, with the beautiful surrounds of Centennial Park creating a dramatic backdrop to a cinematic experience beneath the stars.
The cinema is set up in the picturesque Belvedere Amphitheatre, on the Paddington side of Centennial Park (enter through the Woollahra Gate). With an eclectic selection of current and classic movies screening throughout the summer, it’s perfect for getting a group together, packing a picnic and sprawling out on the grass for sunset drinks and nibblies before the movie begins at sundown (8.30pm in December and January, 8.15pm in February and 8.00pm in March.) Patrons who aren’t keen on preparing their own picnic can make use of the on site, licensed caterer Candy, Bar & Grill.
Movie buffs seeking a bit of extra comfort can treat themselves to a ‘Gold Grass’ ticket ($33), which includes a glass of wine and a reserved bean bed in a premium viewing area.
Adult tickets are $18, with a $15 discount ‘eco-ticket’ available if you catch public transport to the venue.
Tickets are available at the box office near the cinema entrance from 7pm. You can also book online at the official Moonlight Cinema website. Movies screen between Tuesday and Sunday from December 9 to March 20.
